Free or inexpensive ideas to feel the love
Is self-care practical for busy moms?
Self-care has developed some cringey undertones for parents in recent years. We get it, it’s necessary. It is offered up as well-meaning advice for our tired, overwhelmed souls. But WE don’t have the time. Read on for self-care tips that even you can work into your schedule as a busy mom.
It doesn’t always seem “practical” to take care of yourself if you are a mom. There is so much to DO! How can you possibly stop to do something as selfish as say- paint your nails, go for a walk, take a bath, or any of the other “self care” options that are often suggested by folks who probably aren’t living a life anywhere close to the level of chaos you’re dealing with daily.
Depending on the age of your kiddos, it’s hard to get away. There’s a certain level of guilt involved (though, really, we need to acknowledge how ridiculous this is), and sometimes it is simply just easier to keep at it. The dishes need done, someone needs a snack, you’re still finding socks that need picked up somehow, and the list goes ON. Not to mention your budget- Who has time the time (or money) for self-care?
No Money Required
You do not need to have an abundance of time or money to take care of the most important human in your house- and that is you. We’ve all heard the old saying that you cannot pour from an empty cup. It is cliche, absolutely, but I remind myself of this on the especially hard, overwhelming days. If I am not functioning at least moderately well, everyone in the house suffers. For this reason, I have compiled a list of free, easy ideas of self-care tasks.
As we all head into the month of September, I am challenging myself to choose at least one of these tasks to complete every.single.day to remind myself that taking care of me is an important task. We should all be working some time into our hectic schedules to make this a priority. Can’t spare 5 minutes away from your kiddos? That’s okay as well. Make them a part of your mission and use it as a time to teach them about self-care. Imagine how much better off we would all be if we had these wonderful examples in our lives from the start?
All of these tasks are free or inexpensive, and can be done in whatever amount of time you can afford. Have 5 minutes? That’s great! Pick something that can be done in that amount of time and check it off your to-do list for the day.
Which of these practical self-care tasks will you consider today? If there’s anything I’ve missed that you think would be a great addition to this list, let me know!
